Nisali Siriwardene
Nisali Siriwardene has a background in architecture; she graduated from Liverpool John Moores with a first-class degree and the best overall performance award for the BSc Honours in Architecture 2022. Now she is pursuing her master 2019s degree in architecture. Painting, however, has always been her passion. She started her artistic career professionally in 2016, and even though she studied Western music and physical science in school, she showed extraordinary talent in art. Nisali is a self-taught artist; she started her artistic journey with acrylics and oil paints and developed her skills and techniques to a broader level with her techniques and practice. She explored her creative journey to greater depths using more mediums such as markers, coloured pencils, and watercolours. Her expressions and sensitivity are always carried with colours; she brightly looks at the world; the hues, light, and shadows create stories of her life. She developed her skills, basics, and techniques by joining an art academy in her home country, Sri Lanka. With their expertise, she was able to conduct her workshops not only for youngsters but also for university students and adults.
Over the years, she has devoted herself to mastering the intricacies of a wide range of artistic mediums. The fluid grace of watercolours allows her to capture the ephemeral beauty of moments; the fast, quick dry medium encourages her to sketch while travelling; and she can easily carry the small set of equipment to work at any time. She delved into the nuanced world of freehand portrait sketching, where the human face becomes a canvas for exploring emotions, expressions, and the essence of each subject. The natural world has always been a profound source of inspiration for her. Through her landscape paintings, she endeavours to capture and convey the serenity and grandeur of our environment. From the towering majesty of mountains to the tranquil shores of lakes and beautiful beaches, her work invites viewers to immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of our planet. Her background in architecture has endowed her with a unique perspective, particularly evident in her ability to create perspective drawings. She brings architectural visions to life through the convergence of lines and angles, crafting a sense of depth and dimension.

Title or Location: Fonte Pequena, Alte, Portugal
Alte is a village in the Mountains above the Algarve in Portugal. I visited the village to sketch the natural springs and bathing pools, which the village is famous for. The crystal clear waters of the pools, the stone and white painted buildings and the bubbling springs provide many opportunities for sketching and painting. A great day there and lots of inspiration for future paintings.

Title or Location: Northern Lights
This was painted for my granddaughters, who went to Finland last December. The photo I used is one taken by my daughter in law. I loved the way the lights created a green swirl in the sky, framed by the ink black trees and white snow.

This is a love scene that is inspired by a Chinese show I am currently watching: The forbidden flower. I took it as an opportunity to expand my knowledge and learn how to draw two whole bodies profiles and practice on how to draw a hand for the fist time! The most difficult part was to find the exact distance for her hand to fall into his. I hope it evokes love to all of you. Many friends have requested a follow up to this Confession saga, so I am currently working on The Answer to The Confessio

Title or Location: Relax and Feel the Calm
This is a water color painting based on a photo I took last year when visiting MT. Love the wide open spaces and the beautiful sky. This photo was taken while sitting and relaxing along a river in Bigfork. Love to enjoy the views and then incorporate into my paintings. Water colors are such a great choice for landscapes because of the way they flow and blend together just like nature.

At the age of 49, I decided to learn to paint. I have never even sketched or painted in my life. I love watercolor paintings so I started with that and I found that I love it. In February I committed to the 100 Day Project movement with D. Michelle Perry on her 100 Days of Wonder group. Each week she was giving us our Words of Wonder for each day. Day 35 was "Dew". I had already practiced water droplets for fun so I wanted to use them in a close up image of a leaf with dew on it. Th

I painted this cardinal happily perched on a teacup as a reminder. Through all of the stress and busyness of life it is so easy to get caught up in overthinking and ignore the small beautiful moments all around us like savoring a warm cup of tea, or noticing a tiny vibrant bird outside our window. 9x12 Watercolor
