ARTISTS
Nisali Siriwardene
Nisali Siriwardene has a background in architecture; she graduated from Liverpool John Moores with a first-class degree and the best overall performance award for the BSc Honours in Architecture 2022. Now she is pursuing her master's degree in architecture. Painting, however, has always been her passion. She started her artistic career professionally in 2016, and even though she studied Western music and physical science in school, she showed extraordinary talent in art. Nisali is a self-taught artist; she started her artistic journey with acrylics and oil paints and developed her skills and techniques to a broader level with her techniques and practice. She explored her creative journey to greater depths using more mediums such as markers, coloured pencils, and watercolours. Her expressions and sensitivity are always carried with colours; she brightly looks at the world; the hues, light, and shadows create stories of her life. She developed her skills, basics, and techniques by joining an art academy in her home country, Sri Lanka. With their expertise, she was able to conduct her workshops not only for youngsters but also for university students and adults.
Over the years, she has devoted herself to mastering the intricacies of a wide range of artistic mediums. The fluid grace of watercolours allows her to capture the ephemeral beauty of moments; the fast, quick dry medium encourages her to sketch while travelling; and she can easily carry the small set of equipment to work at any time. She delved into the nuanced world of freehand portrait sketching, where the human face becomes a canvas for exploring emotions, expressions, and the essence of each subject. The natural world has always been a profound source of inspiration for her. Through her landscape paintings, she endeavours to capture and convey the serenity and grandeur of our environment. From the towering majesty of mountains to the tranquil shores of lakes and beautiful beaches, her work invites viewers to immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of our planet. Her background in architecture has endowed her with a unique perspective, particularly evident in her ability to create perspective drawings. She brings architectural visions to life through the convergence of lines and angles, crafting a sense of depth and dimension.

Nisali Siriwardene is available for private bookings

Available from Tuesday - Thursday And most weekends.

I took a photo of a beautiful spot when travelling to Brisbane Airport for our departure flight. My husband and I visoour daughter and we had just had 4 lovely days in Byron Bay. We stopped off here for a rest, Tweedheads in NSW. I remember thinking the colours of the water were beautiful and I would have to paint it on my return.

Great inspiratio for a painting.

Title or Location: Unloved Boat, Alvor, Portugal
An apparently unloved old fishing boat, normally they?re decorated in beautiful bright colours. Retired and forgotten, I thought I?d attempt to breathe a little more life into this lovely old boat! From a photo taken years ago whilst on holiday in the Algarve. I took the picture with a view to painting it at some point and finally got round to it a year or so ago. I?m glad I did as it?s one of my family?s favourite paintings. Windsor and Newton Cotman colours on Daler-Rowney 140lb Aquafine pa

Title or Location: Lunch Counter/ Madrid Spain
Went to Spain for 2 weeks a year ago. While thrilled to see the work of Velasquez, Goya, Microsoft and Picasso, it was a treat to be part of everyday life there. This was a scene I photographed at an enormous Farmers Market. The color of the bread caught my eye. Madrilenos have wine with lunch. So civilized.

Title or Location: Calm Waters
This is the first painting I?ve done from my imagination, and my 5th watercolour painting. Done on a drizzly Sunday afternoon in between cooking a family dinner. I wanted to test a set of granulating paints for the first time to see what effects I could get, using only 1 colour granulating paint and Paynes Grey, it?s created quite a moody evening effect. I?m looking forward to learning more about watercolour and developing my skills.
